MartianWave Privacy Policy

Effective: November 5, 2026
Applies to: the MartianWave channel for Roku devices and the website martianwave.approku.com

MartianWave is a live-radio explorer for Roku, developed by kennpain, an independent developer in Canada. This policy explains, in plain language, what information MartianWave uses, where it is kept and who else is involved when you listen.

The short version

  • MartianWave has no accounts, no sign-up and no analytics or tracking of its own.
  • MartianWave shows no ads and does not use your Roku advertising identifier.
  • Your favourites, history and settings are stored only on your Roku. They are never uploaded to us.
  • To find and play stations, your Roku talks directly to the Radio Browser directory and to each broadcaster’s own servers.
  • MartianWave Premium is sold and billed by Roku. We never see your name, email address or payment details.

1. Information stored on your Roku

MartianWave keeps a small amount of information in your Roku’s local storage (the device “registry”) so the app can remember you between launches. None of it leaves your Roku.

  • Favourite stations: each station’s name, country and Radio Browser directory ID. No stream addresses are saved.
  • Favourite countries: two-letter country codes.
  • Recently played and recently discovered stations: up to 20 of each, with the time you played them.
  • Your Listening Journey: up to 20 stops (station name, country and time).
  • The last station you played, including its logo address, so Home can offer “Continue listening”.
  • Your settings: theme, menu language, globe style, day/night line, ambient mode, playback preferences and home region.
  • Recent searches: your last 6 search words and the search type.
  • Whether you have seen the introduction.
  • The number of skips used today on the free plan (reset each day).
  • The last MartianWave Premium status Roku reported (plan and renewal date), so Premium keeps working briefly while your Roku is offline.

You can erase this information at any time in MartianWave under Settings > My Radio (clear history, clear favourites, or reset MartianWave). Removing the channel from your Roku also removes it.

2. Information your Roku shares while you use MartianWave

MartianWave has no server of its own. When you browse and listen, your Roku connects directly to these services:

  • Radio Browser (radio-browser.info): a free, community-maintained directory of internet radio stations. MartianWave asks it for station lists, searches, countries, genres and languages. Requests identify the app as “MartianWave/<version> (Roku)”.
  • Broadcasters’ stream servers: when you press play, audio streams directly from the station’s own server to your Roku. MartianWave does not record, proxy or re-broadcast audio.
  • Station logo addresses listed in the directory: logos are loaded from wherever each station hosts them.

Like any internet request, these services can see your Roku’s IP address and the time of the request. Their own privacy policies apply to what they do with it. MartianWave does not control them.

Play counts (optional)

Radio Browser ranks popular stations by anonymous play counts. If “Count plays in the directory” is on (Settings > Playback), MartianWave tells Radio Browser when a station starts playing. That request contains only the station’s directory ID. No personal information or listening history is sent. You can turn it off at any time.

3. Information from your Roku device

MartianWave reads a few device settings and uses them only on your Roku:

  • Your Roku’s country, to suggest “Popular in your region” and to start the globe in the right place.
  • Your Roku’s time zone and clock format, to show local times and greet you (“Good evening”).
  • Whether Audio Guide is on, so focused items can be read aloud.
  • Whether your Roku is online, so MartianWave can explain when it is not.

4. MartianWave Premium and Roku Pay

MartianWave Premium is an optional subscription sold and billed by Roku through your Roku account (Roku Pay).

  • Roku shows the price, handles the purchase and processes payment. We never receive your card details, name, address or email.
  • MartianWave asks Roku which Premium plans are offered in your country and whether your Roku account has an active MartianWave subscription. Roku answers with the plan, purchase and renewal dates. MartianWave stores only the plan and renewal date on your Roku.
  • Roku’s privacy policy covers the purchase and your Roku account.

5. What we do not do

  • We do not create accounts or profiles.
  • We do not use analytics, crash-reporting or advertising SDKs.
  • We do not use your Roku advertising identifier.
  • We do not sell, rent or share personal information, because we do not collect it.
  • We do not record what you listen to on any server.

6. Children

MartianWave is a general-audience radio app and is not directed at children under 13. It does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. Live radio is produced by third-party broadcasters, and some stations may broadcast content intended for adults.

7. Your choices and rights

Because MartianWave does not hold personal information about you on any server, there is nothing for us to access, correct or delete on your behalf. Everything MartianWave stores is on your Roku and under your control (see section 1).

Privacy laws such as Canada’s PIPEDA, Quebec’s Law 25, the EU and UK GDPR and US state privacy laws give you rights over personal information that companies hold about you. For information held by Roku, Radio Browser or a broadcaster, please contact them directly.

8. The website

martianwave.approku.com is a static information page. It sets no cookies of its own and runs no analytics. Like any website, the hosting provider may keep standard server logs (such as IP address, browser type and time of request) for security and reliability. Its typefaces are served from the same site, so no third-party services are contacted.

9. Security

MartianWave stores only non-sensitive preferences on your Roku and uses secure connections (HTTPS) to the Radio Browser directory where available. Stream and logo addresses are provided by broadcasters, and some may use plain HTTP.

10. Changes to this policy

If MartianWave starts handling information differently, this policy will be updated before the change takes effect, and the effective date above will change. Significant changes will also be noted in the app’s release notes.

11. Contact

For privacy questions, use the support contact listed on MartianWave’s page in the Roku Channel Store.

MartianWave is not affiliated with Roku, Radio Browser or any broadcaster. Roku is a trademark of Roku, Inc.
